Do I need planning permission?
If you intend to carryout any development on land the chances are that you will need planning permission.
Development in the eyes of planning law is defined as: the carrying out of building, engineering, mining or other operations in, on, over or under land, or the making of any material change in the use of any buildings or other land".
So if you intend to erect or alter a building, create vehicle access, alter the use of a building or land, or carry out any work that could be described as an 'engineering operation', planning permission may be required.
Indeed there are occasions when certain small developments, such as a small house extension, don't require planning permission, but if you have any doubts l you should contact your local planning services.
