Permitted Development Rights
Not all building work requires planning permission. Homeowners are often keen to create more space, or ad value to their homes through doing so, but what are the limits to which you can build?
The Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order, 1997 (the GPDO) allows for the extension of, or changes to a property without planning permission, within certain guidelines.
Your individual circumstances may vary from what is covered by Permitted Development Rights. Covenants preventing certain alterations may be in place, with listed buildings, areas of conservation and national parks often having tighter regulation.
