Finding Building Land

Finding building land for sale is getting significantly harder. This is mainly through the growth of the self-build industry - people who feel that building their dream home would be cheaper than buying it!

Self-builders are constantly on the look out for building land for sale and hence, a number of websites are now established, which literally list building land for sale throughout the country.

Examples of these are plotfinder and self-build.com. To be able to access the site, there is usually a subscription payable. This can either be an annual fee or a set number listings of the building land for sale that is currently available.

The main restriction when looking for building land for sale is the location. Most people are not able to relocate and are tied to a certain area or town due to their job or other commitments.

Auctions are another place to find building land for sale. And if you are not set on a particular location, then good buys are still out there. You need, however, to be prepared to do your homework and spend many hours trawling through auction brochures and then attending auctions.

When looking through auction packs, you probably won't find the bargains listed under building land for sale. By its very nature, true building land is land with planning permission. The better buys are properties where they are in such a state of disrepair that the best option is to tear them down and start again. Usually, in these instances you are most likely to get planning permission to rebuild.

Other places to find building land for sale are Estate Agents and land agents. Here, you can expect to pay the market rate, which can be several hundred thousand pounds for a tenth of an acre plot. Location, obviously, affects the price as the existence of detailed planning permission.
